5 Indian startups inspiring entrepreneurs to get involved in space industry

The Indian space sector has been evolving graciously and witnessing few ground-breaking achievements in its course. As a revolutionary step, the Indian government has opened up its space agency facilities to private firms and startups.

In a speech, the Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman declared, “Indian private sector will be a co-traveller in India’s space journey. We will provide a predictable policy and regulatory environment to private players.” This is indeed a landmark reform for the private players and startups to bring remarkable innovations for the enhancement of the space sector.

While private players and startups are gearing up, here are some of the Indian startups who are revolutionising the space tech of the country and acting as inspirations to the emerging stars –

Dhruva Space –
Established in the year 2012, this space startup is based in Bangalore and aims at leading as the turnkey spacecraft development company in the private sector of India. From working towards the establishment of an AIT for microsatellites in Bengaluru to signing an MoU for the development of the follow-up mission to HAMSAT-1 launched in 2005 by ISRO, the Dhruva Space is contributing by manifolds to the space sector. Also, the company has collaborations with national as well as international organisations including Germany’s Berlin Space Technologies and Australia’s Saber Astronautics from the space sector.

Bellatrix Aerospace –
Founded in the year 2015, Bellatrix Aerospace is an R&D company based out of Mysore. With a motto to revolutionise space technology, this startup develops orbital launch vehicles and electric propulsion systems for satellites. Also, the organisation is developing two rockets – Chetak and Garuda with next-generation construction material carbon composites to make them reusable and less costly. Moreover, Belattrix Aerospace has patented an electric satellite propulsion system called Microwave Electro-thermal Thruster (MET), which is claimed to be effective and efficient than the traditional chemical thrusters and lasts long.

TeamIndus –
The team came together in the year 2010 with a plan to win the Google Lunar X Prize competition. The competition ended in 2018 and there were no winners. Though the competition ended, the team has been working together to develop and launch a lunar rover. While their rover is called Ek Choti Si Asha (ECA), their lander is code-named HHK1.

Kawa Space –
This startup is based out of Mumbai and develops space products from scratch. It is built in order to take a space mission idea and suffice end to end. This startup led India’s first private space mission and they were bestowed with a contract to produce over 27 satellites for ISRO. The company has collaborated with tiny startups to Fortune 50 companies in space missions and built simple technologies to complex constellations.

Xovian –
Based out of New Delhi, this aerospace company was founded in the year 2011. This company aims at providing low-cost sustainable solutions in satellite fabrication. With a stronghold in satellite technology, the company is also a member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). The company has escalated into the fields of CANSAT, sounding rockets, high altitude balloons and satellite components manufacturing.

The works of these startups, without any technical help from ISRO, are really inspiring. And now, when private players will get the advantage of ISRO treasures, it is expected many entrepreneurs will bring innovative technologies and equipment into play to strengthen India’s space sector.

If you have an innovative mind, know your customers and their needs, then don’t waste your dreams of contributing to the space sector due to a dearth in funding. We will help you to live your dream with all the support you need.
