Chairman’s Speech

A Happy New Year 2022 to all our fraternity of Startups, Investors, Incubators, Accelerators, Partners and well wishers of Hyderabad Angels(HA).

The last one year has been phenomenal for the Indian Startup Ecosystem with around 40+ Unicorns, 3 Startup IPOs which were very successful and deployment of more than $ 36+ Billion. The improved liquidity in both national and international markets and a sudden surge of Angel investors worldwide has acted as fuel to further develop the ecosystem. HA’s philosophy of being an Angel network and working in line with VC funds which have an objective of making more than 80% of their startup investments successful with an IRR more than 30% + has yielded us positive outcomes.

2021 has seen a sudden surge in valuations of startups and investors showing an appetite of higher investments at seed stage between $1mn to $ 2mn vs the historical $100K to $500K ranges. Considering these changes in dynamics, we have been doubly careful with our investments in 7+ startups, with another 4-5 active startups in the pipeline. We are also happy to share that 3 of our Portfolio companies have given healthy returns to HA members by way of Partial/ Full exits.

During the calendar year 2021, 15+ existing portfolio startups were successful in raising a follow-on investment by way of Series A & B. Notable are Stanplus, Otipy, Planetspark, Zineone, Toch.ai etc., which have received investment rounds more than 10 + Mn funding which in turn increased the return multiples for our members.

With regard to CY2022, we are excited, hopeful and expect the startup market to continue having a bullish phase at least for next half year as large investors anticipate exiting by way of IPO’s and the current liquidity continues to hold good. We expect people and businesses to keep evolving to get better at managing any covid related disruptions but also startups are also taking this as an opportunity to expand digitally. We see a healthy trend in investments in Spacetech, Blockchain NFT’s , Agritech, Electrical Vehicles, Drones , Deep Tech , Biotech etc.,
