Electric Vehicles (EV) run on an electric motor, which makes the energy-efficient and environment friendly. EV has seen a significant increase in its sale since 2020 in India. We all can agree that EV is the key to a healthy environment for the future. EV has a lot of benefits for its customers. Before we dive deep into the subject let’s understand EV’s charging system and battery better.
Charging an electric vehicle is very easy. It’s a simple electric circuit that gets connected to charge the EV. Just like any other battery, EV’s battery as well has two terminals—an anode (-ve) and a cathode (+ve). The +ve and the -ve of the battery are separated and have space that is filled with separating components (aptly). The battery is charged with the input of (DC) direct current. While charging your EV you have to know your vehicle’s connector as there are different types of connectors. Manufacturers across the world that design EV install different connector compatibilites. But recently we have been hearing the cases of EV catching fire. Will this bring a bump in the sales of EVs that has been rapidly increasing until now? Let’s first understand the cause of this fire. There have been a few claims that address the increasing heat/ climate changes as the cause, but that is definitely the case as EV batteries are lithium-ion (Li-ion) based which require a few hundred degrees Celsius before heating up and running into ‘thermal runaway incident’ that can cause a fire. The real cause behind these fires can be :
- The Poor Battery Management System (BMS).
- Poor Quality of battery
- The poor quality of separator in the battery
The above reasons can cause a short circuit which leads to a fire spark. But not all companies have poor battery performance. In fact, there are a lot of benefits one gets while owning an EV
